The purpose of The College Community Network is for local businesses to support the students of 11 area colleges by offering discounts and endorsements to those with a college ID. The network also supports students by informing them of public events in the community and 11 campuses. The network is supported by the Genesis Group, a group of volunteers whose purpose is to advance the community.
Ralph Eannace, chairman of the network committee, said the biggest part of the initiative was the development of their Web site. The Web site was made specifically to integrate the students into the regional community by providing a list of participating businesses that support and offer discounts for students. It also features an event calendar that details 700 events open to the public. According to the network, the Web site will be updated consistently. Eannace said between Aug. 3 and Sept. 1, there were 1,900 web page visitors.
Here in Morrisville there are 10 businesses involved in the network, including Lorie's Place, The Fort and the Big M. For a complete list click here. None of the Morrisville businesses are currently offering discounts, but they may do so in the future, Eannace said.
Students are encouraged to visit the Web site, take advantage of the discounts and to suggest potential businesses that could join the network.
