Through harsh wind and rain, the men's soccer team lost a tough match on Wednesday, Oct. 7, to Keuka College with a final score of 2-0, making the Mustangs' overall record 3-6-1.
Players from both teams slipped and slid on Lemery Field as conditions worsened throughout the first 45 minutes of play. With the wind to the Storm's favor in the first half, Keuka fired nine shots to Morrisville's keeper Greg Igglesden.
"Greg did a great job of keeping the ball out of the net," said Allan Schroeder, a former Mustang soccer player. "Weather like that isn't something you look forward to playing in but we made the best of it."
With less than three minutes left in the first half, Christian Sterner netted Keuka's first goal of the game off a corner from Jack Reese. The Mustangs went into halftime cold, muddy and down by one.
"With the wind against us in the first half, they did all they could do," said Schroeder.
In the second half, the Keuka Storm faced the wind as the Mustangs tried using the wind to their favor, shooting two at Keuka's Mike Meskill.
In the 67th minute of play, Reece netted a second goal for the Storm, making the score 2-0 with less than 25 minutes left in the second half.
"The wind was terrible," said returning player Chris Dickey. "We can't make the conditions an excuse, but they definitely didn't help out."
The Mustangs had a total of four shots in the game: attempts from Dickey, Scott Morris, Andrew Brobbey, and Eric Stein.
The Mustangs return to the field Thursday, Oct. 15, playing at Wells College at 4 p.m.
