The women's soccer team ended the 2009 season with a 3-14 record overall (2-8 NEAC) and "huge jump in progress from previous years," said head coach Chris Perkins. In his third year as head coach, Perkins and the team increased the win percentage by 300 percent.

Perkins said he sees the program advancing in the right direction and he has big goals for the team. He hopes to compete in the NEAC conference tournament, even though the number of teams competing has been cut from six to four.

The team will be without two of four captains next season; Tifinie-Lyn Cole and Jessica Yates completed their final years of NCAA eligibility. In hopes of filling these positions with competitive prospects, Perkins continues to attend showcase tournaments across New York State.

Perkins said he also hopes that the team receives more respect from opponents after the success of this season. "We want teams to look at the schedule and see Morrisville and treat it as a competitive game," Perkins said.

Perkins said he believes that the team's best game was their final game against Penn State Harrisburg, who won the conference championship and eventually won the conference tournament. The team dropped the game 2-0, as Penn State Harrisburg went undefeated in the NEAC play with an 11-0 record. Perkins said he believes the conference is average compared to the rest of the nation, and it is perfect for a developing team like Morrisville.

Yates, a senior on the team, looks at this year as a success for a program that had struggled the past two years. "I think the greatest achievement of this year by far was overcoming the past two years with no wins and coming out this year with three," Yates said. "There were more games I think we should have come out on top, but overall, we took the first step for years to come and I'm proud of that." Yates played on the team for three years and her most vivid memory of playing is scoring her first goal this season. "My favorite memory of the season was the preseason and bus rides to away games," said freshman goalie Cheyanna Waters.

Perkins hopes that next season will be even better than this past year, as many core players will be returning. "I hope that the team can win more games next season and improve at the same rate, winning about three more games," Perkins said. "We hope to compete for a spot in the conference tournament next year."
